Since her debut at the Teatro Regio di Parma in 2002, Hui He has made of Tosca one of the most significant roles in her repertoire and career, performing it on the most important stages in the world: Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Arena di Verona, Lyric Opera Chicago and many, many others. Her Tosca has been acclaimed by audiences and critics, described as “full of intensity”, “musical refinement combined with impetuous temperament”, “one of the greatest interpreters of Tosca”, “Sparkling, luminous and blinding light”.

The Chinese soprano, “the Chinese Queen of Opera”, returns to the role of the diva Floria Tosca at the Staatsoper Hamburg, for four performances, on 29 September, 2, 8, 12 October 2021, in the acclaimed production by Robert Carsen, with the musical direction by Alexander Joel. She will be joined by a prestigious cast that includes Pavel Černoch (Mario Cavaradossi) and Andrzej Dobber (Scarpia).

October 2 will also be a special event for Hui He as she will be singing her 100th performance of Tosca, an important milestone for one of Puccini’s best-loved and most requested interpreters on the current operatic world: “Tosca is one of the roles I carry in my heart, it is the role that opened me the doors of the most important international opera houses and thanks to which I have unforgettable memories, from my debut in Parma, where I had the opportunity to study the role with Raina Kabaivanska to my debut at La Scala with Maestro Lorin Maazel (who invited me to sing it with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra), up to these performances at the Hamburg Staatsoper, a wonderful theatre, with an attentive and passionate audience, where I am happy to share my first 100 Tosca performances. I will give my best for the audience, giving as always my heart to this magnificent creature, to which I hope to give my soul and my voice for many, many more performances.

After these highly anticipated performances in Hamburg, Hui He will return to China for her traditional concert tour, in the country’s most prestigious concert halls, before returning to Europe for her debut in the role of Verdi’s rare Alzira at the ABAO Opera in Bilbao (also her house debut) under the baton of Maestro Daniel Oren.
